Melting (Poem for school)

Melting

When I was a kid, I was an ice cube

inside a glass of water,

ignorant of the world around me.

Blissfully floating,

with support of the water underneath.

As time goes past

I start to melt.

Now there is part of me that is now more aware,

aware of my surroundings,

how blisteringly cold everything is.

Soon I am no longer my old self

No longer the chill, translucent piece of ice,

no longer lifted by others.

Instead I am clear, cold water,

helping, holding up the ice cubes

that are now above me.

One day, I will evaporate,

I will leave the glass of water.

I will leave others

to take my place.
